I’m Dennes, 53 years old, father of two boys, and self-employed. I’ve been single for 3.5 years and am busy with work in my daily life, but also with the usual things at home: laundry, shopping, housework—you know how it is.

Last summer, I went on a two-week vacation to Spain and France with my youngest son. Still, something kept nagging at me. I wanted to get away myself, just a few days for myself. But where do you go on your own? And I had never been on vacation alone before…

After some deliberation, I thought: why not a road trip? I didn’t fancy just lying on the beach. Then I had an idea: cycling! I love cycling, and I was sure I would meet other cyclists. I opened my laptop, did a quick Google search… and there was Mallorca – and Rompelberg. I had already heard good things about it, so I booked a week.

At home, I told my boys that I was going to Mallorca for a week to cycle. They thought it was strange: their father on vacation alone?

And then it was time to head to Mallorca. While I was still waiting for my suitcase, a Spanish lady called to check if everything was okay—they were already waiting for me. Once at the hotel, I was able to go straight to my room, even though it was only 9 a.m. Great service!

After some rest, I went to the Rompelberg shop in the hotel. My gear was already prepared, I received instructions on how everything worked, and my bike was waiting for me in the bike shed, perfectly adjusted. I didn’t even have to bring sports drink powder. Everything was provided.

Every day I enjoyed cycling, with great guidance and a friendly group. New friendships, nice conversations – it felt like a warm bath. My expectations were really exceeded.

The days flew by. We cycled, had fun along the way, and drank a beer together afterwards. In the morning and evening, we saw each other again at dinner. The atmosphere was special, partly because of the new people I got to know. For me, it was a successful week. I enjoyed myself and learned that going on vacation alone is not crazy at all.

Follow your heart and enjoy every day. When I think back on that week, a big smile appears on my face. That says it all, right?

Are you thinking: I want that too, but I’m not sure how? Just do it! You’re not alone—there are plenty of like-minded people with the same passion. And the on-site support is excellent. Everyone is there for you.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this trip. I’ll definitely be back next year. The island is beautiful, the hotels are great, the food is more than adequate, and the whole organization is just superb.
