It’s wonderful not to have to worry about anything.
The sun paints the sky a soft orange as I fill my water bottle and check my bike.
Today’s on the agenda: a challenging ride through the Tramuntana mountains of Mallorca. It’s exactly what I was looking for when I booked my vacation with Rompelberg Cycling Holidays. Here you’ll find everything a cyclist could wish for.
From adventure to relaxation: everything is possible
At Rompelberg, it’s all about cycling in the broadest sense of the word. Whether you want to race uphill or ride along the coast at a leisurely pace, there’s always a route to suit you. I notice this immediately at the starting point for the group rides. There are tours for beginners, recreational cyclists, and cyclists who like to push themselves to the limit. I opt for the latter category, and the guide looks approvingly.
Everything is clear, well organized, but with a relaxed atmosphere.
The first climb comes quickly, and the group slowly spreads out. I feel my heart rate skyrocket and my legs burn. It’s tough, but the reward—a view of the valley with the morning mist still hanging between the trees—makes it all worthwhile. Our guide, who knows the terrain like the back of his hand, encourages us. He knows exactly where to push and where it’s smart to save your energy.
Perfect preparation, maximum performance
What also struck me immediately was the quality of the equipment and guidance. My rental bike, I opted for the Wilier Filante SL with Shimano Ultegra Di2, is a gem: light, smooth, and perfectly tuned. No fuss, just enjoy the ride. This is clearly not a standard “holiday bike.” The equipment is taken seriously here, and that makes all the difference when you want to take on a serious challenge.
The routes are also carefully selected. For the adventurous cyclist, there are technical descents and challenging climbs, such as the Sa Calobra – an iconic climb with hairpin bend after hairpin bend that makes you feel like you’re in a race. But the more recreational routes are also impressive. You can cycle peacefully along the coast or through the flat inland areas, where the scents of wild herbs and blossoming orange trees keep you company.
Along the way, the guide will tell you about the region. Did you know that most of the oranges here are not used for export but in local dishes? Or that there are villages where time seems to stand still? You’re not just cycling, you’re really getting to know the island.
Customized guidance
At Rompelberg, you can tell that the team members are cycling enthusiasts themselves. They understand what you are looking for as a cyclist, whether it is improving your climbing technique, discovering breathtaking routes, or simply having fun. The guides are not only professional, but also committed. They help you pedal that little bit harder, give technical tips, or point out that hidden terrace where they serve the best café con leche. That personal touch makes every day unique. You feel like you’re not just a customer, but part of a group that is experiencing something special together.
The perfect base after a day of cycling
After this monster ride, it’s time to head back to my hotel. I’ve chosen a cozy 4-star hotel with half board. It’s wonderful not to have to worry about a thing. My room is spacious and comfortable, and after a hot shower, I’m downstairs for a good dinner. Everything here is geared towards giving cyclists like me a carefree vacation. But I could also have opted for an apartment, where you have more freedom to arrange your own meals, or a luxurious 5-star hotel with wellness facilities.
At Rompelberg, there really is an option to suit everyone. What they all have in common is that you can tell these accommodations are tailored to cyclists: secure bike storage, meals adapted for athletes, and a relaxed atmosphere. There is also plenty of room for relaxation. A dip in the pool or a drink on the terrace while discussing the day’s achievements with the other guests – it’s all part of the experience. After my ride, I take a seat on the terrace, which is a mix of fanatical cyclists, recreational cyclists, and everything in between. The atmosphere is relaxed, and you immediately notice that everyone here has the same goal: to enjoy themselves.
The Rompelberg team is there with big smiles, and some guides enthusiastically tell us about the day.
Cycling with a smile
What made this vacation complete for me was the balance. Balance between effort and relaxation, between challenge and fun, and between performance and connection. Everything was just right: the atmosphere, the guidance, the routes, and above all, the people.
Whether you come to push your limits or just to cycle in good company, Rompelberg Cycling Holidays offers everything you need. I fly home with tired legs and a head full of memories. And as I leaf through my photos at the airport, I know for sure: this was no ordinary cycling holiday. This was an experience I won’t forget in a hurry. I board the plane with one thought in mind: I’ll be back. Mallorca has stolen my heart – and Rompelberg made it possible.
