The History of Rompelberg Cycling Holidays
From personal cycling dream to leading cycling organization in Mallorca
The beginning
Fred Rompelberg and his passion for cycling
Rompelberg Cycling Holidays originated in the 1990s, when cycling legend Fred Rompelberg turned his love of cycling into a dream: to let other people experience the same freedom and euphoria on a bike. Fred, best known for his world record on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1995 (where he became the fastest cyclist in the world at 268.831 km/h), combined his enthusiasm and knowledge in a unique concept: cycling holidays in Mallorca.
Growth and development
Mallorca, the perfect setting
The first cycling weeks were organized under the name Fred Rompelberg Cycling Holidays. With personal attention, guided rides, and good rental bikes, the number of enthusiastic guests grew rapidly. Mallorca proved to be the perfect setting: varied terrain, mild climate, and a welcoming atmosphere.
What started with a small team and a few bikes became an organization with hundreds of road bikes, professional mechanics, and experienced cycling guides. For years, Fred himself was among the guests, acting as a guide, inspirer, and storyteller, and establishing a warm, guest-oriented culture that can still be felt today.
A new generation
Letizia Rompelberg and Jetse Scholma
In 2020, Letizia Rompelberg (Fred’s daughter) and her partner Jetse Scholma took over the reins. With a fresh perspective and respect for the rich history, they have transformed the company into the modern Rompelberg Cycling Holidays of today. The name changed, but the values of hospitality, quality, passion for cycling, and a personal approach remained.
Under their leadership, not only have the team and the range expanded, but investments have also been made in digitization, partnerships with top brands such as Wilier, Bioracer, Amacx, and BESV, and a clear focus on sustainability, innovation, and community.
